This is a great application for following blogs, news, and other electronic media that allows for sharing using RSS feeds.
To get started:
Go to google.com
Under the headings across the top, go to “more”. Under that menu, find reader.
If you have an existing google account (a gmail account or one for google docs, etc.), sign in
If you don’t have a google account, create one (this is a free application!). You can use whatever your current email address is to create an account—it doesn’t have to be gmail. (I use my aol account)
You can go to “settings” to personalize the way your page operates and to organize folders, etc.
To add sites (blogs, etc.) to your reader, go to that site, click on the rss symbol (small orange curved lines). It will ask where you want it to go (google, yahoo, etc.). Choose google. It will take you to your google page where you will subscribe to the feed. Not every site has an RSS feed—but lots do! You might practice by going to edutopia.org. When you scroll about halfway down the page you will see a section called “stay connected”. Find the RSS symbol (it’s the last one). It actually walks you through 3 easy steps to get this feed on your reader.
Good luck! Let me know if you have questions!
Kim
